Welcome to the human journey, the one you are about to take. Whether you are traveling to exotic places or just going out for a walk, the journey has begun.

Travel, movement, mobility-these are some of the essential activities in human life. Whether you travel to foreign lands or just across the city, you are on a journey, and from your journeying you shape yourself, your history, and the stories you tell. Travel, so essential to human life, is a complex matter that encompasses a variety of experiences- the every day, tourism, exploration, exile or immigration. In studying essays, poems, stories, and magazine articles, you will explore how travel is experienced by individual writers, contemporary scholars and experienced travelwriters. Their words will not only emphasize how  travel is a dynamic cultural, social and psychological force in your life, shaping you and the world you live in but they will also  highlight how travel is a powerful metaphor for human experience. In the process of exploring these ideas you become a traveler among  travelers.

The Speakers’ Corner expands the space for the discussion and exchange of ideas beyond the class room by giving students a chance to explore and develop ideas raised in class or from class readings.  Participation on the Speakers’ Corner allows students to explore their own relationship with travel. To comment, speakers must be registered visitors. Comments are open to the public for reading.

The rules are simple. Listen to what is said; speak to the idea. May the journey last long and take you far.
